I seem to be the only one besides ebert who thinks that it lacked the quality and depth that is quintessential to star trek. To me, it was too focused on "OOO! FLASHY!" Sure, they did a bit of character exploration, but they tried to cram it all into little segments instead of spreading it through the movie. Plus there's the whole philosophical idealism behind all the series and movies so far that this one seems to lack. I dunno, I just couldn't enjoy it.

Shatner's Kirk had more humility. Not a lot, it was subtle, but it was there. This new kirk is far more an action hero. Hopefully that means there will be character development in any future movies.

Overall though, it was very well done. It goes to show what you can do when you kick Rick Berman out.

The only thing that really bothered me about that movie was the incredible number of camera flares; I mean seriously, the screen becomes almost completely white for half a second each time it flares up. Other than that, I found the plot to be quite involving and the acting was excellent. Everyone should see this movie while it's still in theaters as it is an experience that cannot be replicated (no pun intended) by any home theater systems (unless, of course, you actually own a movie theater).

I just watched Star Trek last night, and I have to agree that it was very good. The only problem was that I was in a very crowded theatre and kept wanting to kiss my fiance... so, I guess if your girl is a sci-fi weirdo like me and you're looking for some love, take her to see this movie.

sorry, was that inappropriate? I just don't usually feel that way during action movies -- I usually want to leave or hide my eyes -- so I guess there was something in it for squeemish girlies to enjoy... O_o

I only have one thing to say about CT's review.

"Star Trek was incredible and you should go see it now."

Spot on.

The end.
