Hi Xyliacs! Sorry to be a day late, I am thinking about changing our update day to Tuesday or Wednesday. Thank you for your patience.
Today’s page is perhaps a disappointment, perhaps not. The story will be shifting gears in a few pages and you will be introduced to some new characters.
I saw an interesting assessment of a movie today, and one of the exercises was asking people if they could sum up characters- without describing their appearance, but the characters themselves. With good fictional characters, this is possible. Bad ones it’s not. I was wondering if any of you had the time, if you would write up descriptions of any characters of Xylia. Just curious to see if they have what it takes to be described…
And if they are seen by others as I see them.
Josh (Canterrain) and I did an interview with the wonderful folks at TGT comics last week- it can be found here-http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/talkCast.jsp?masterId=22928&cmd=tc The December 22 interview. I was greatly frazzled because of running so late in a local ice storm, but it was a fun interview. Lots of other great interviews on this site too.
———————BARB NEWS & NOTES——————-
I hope everyone who celebrated the Christmas holiday had a joyous one. We had a good time here in Iowa- of course the threat of nasty weather dampened (or froze) some plans. Here is my Christmas table with some flowers sent by my sweetheart.

The Doodle gets festive by trying to bury his gifts – chew bones- under the tree…

So now we turn our focus to one of my favorite times of year, New Years. I know that they are just arbitrary days, but I like the reboot feeling of starting a new calendar year: it still helps me with that nudge to think about things and make a change.
Last year I started a blog post called the Resolution Blog, and some of your posted- don’t know if you remember that…;-) Here is a link to the blog: http://xyliatales.ning.com/profiles/blog/show?id=2000576%3ABlogPost%3A15961&commentId=2000576%3AComment%3A15988
I haven’t looked at this thread since January of ’09. So I read over it. Very interesting to read these things. I had a lot of goals, some of them I did okay on- like the fitness goals, I actually exceeded those. The personal goals too- getting out with friends, actually meeting a man (which wasn’t even in the plan, obviously, but being ‘positive’ about dating)
My real slips off target came in business. And with Xylia. That needs to change. With some recent revelations in the webcomics world, this is more than ever going to be a necessity. So when I write my resolution in the New Blog in the forum, I will focus heavily on that. http://xyliatales.ning.com/profiles/blogs/the-resolution-blog-20-2010 I hope you will join me in sharing your hopes for the new year!

Barb, my Christmas was of the quiet but pleasant sort. It was greatly enhanced by the beautiful portrait you did of Sunny. She loved it!! I also showed off your work to some friends at church, perhaps this will mean a bit more work for you, I’m looking forward to the New Year, anticipating some changes and improvements in my life, not the least of which is the possibility of persuading a certain someone to marry me. I had to share that picture of the Doodle under the tree with his gifts with her since she had owned a MinPin named Max that dies last year. She keeps telling me “NO MORE PETS!!” and I keep saying, “Yeah, right!” As always, my prayers are with you and your family that things will continue on the positive track that they seem to be on.

whatever your resolutions, it’s nice to see a new page – and to see the story continue! i’d say you did pretty well this year with your 2009 goals though. if you can do as well in 2010, just imagine where you’ll be this time next year!

I knew it wasn’t true. I’m still disappointed though.
My christmas was great and long, Barb. It started on the 21st when I boarded a plane at Bradley International Airport in Hartford CT at 8:10 AM to fly out to Washington state to be with the sister and niece and brother-in-law and mom and stepdad for the holiday. It continued on Tuesday with a local tour of the area my mom lives in and got more fun on Wednesday with lunch in Seattle with my sister on her break from work (whichh was followed by an amphibious tour of Seattle with my mom on these world war two era “duck” vehicles that go on both land and water — lotta fun). It mellowed a little on Thursday with a party at the in-laws and wrapping some gifts, and then boomed on Friday with a 1,000 gigabyte portable hard drive and a 1,000 page book by Stephen King (Under the Dome, great so far) and some other stuff that can’t be measured in thousands. Saturday was a little cooler and a little warmer, with the exploring of christmas goodies and a leftover feast at my sister’s, along with the beginning of repacking and the deciding of what to have shipped (the drive, a stuff holder for my car, and a magic kit). Sunday was fun with seeing Sherlock Holmes and the playing of games with Mom and Bob (the stepdad, and for the record we used all but one of the hundred tiles in a Scrabble game — it was the Y). Monday was a flight back east to Detroit (eep! Nah, it was fine.:)) that left at 1:30 and got in around 8:45 (those are the times of the respective airports, Seatac and Detroit). 90 minutes later, I started the final airleg home and landed at 12:01 AM on Tuesday, getting to the hotel at 12:45 and falling asleep at 4-something (don’t ask me why). After oozing out of bed at 9:40 or so, I showered and drove home, exhausted but more or less in one piece.
PHEW!!!
