As for Claude himself, this page makes me think that he’s not neccessarily escaping, but is more going to make sure that there aren’t any unplesant surprises trying to get through. Also, I still think Livy is silently dogging (pun very intended) his every step, and as soon as he finds the painting she’ll come out yelling.
