Hi Xyliacs!
A new page! FINALLY!! Thank you again to all of my readers for being so understanding on this latest of late updates. If you missed my little announcement over the weekend, I wound up with a case of whiplash from the waterpark (such a wimp), so I was a hurtin’ unit for several days. I’m getting along much better now after some good rest and lots of ice and Advil.
Today’s page is what we like to call in the biz “filler”. There really is no way around pages like this- they play a role in pacing, set up and character development. But…they annoy everyone. The story as a whole needs these little things though, so- apparently Claude-y can’t seem to avoid hearing voices no matter what world he’s in…
Hey, today (Monday July 14) we’re debuting something new and special! ! I am going to broadcast a live on air talk show called “Xylia Chat”! This maiden voyage will be a one hour broadcast taking place at 4:00PM EDT. I realize many of you are from other parts of the world in different time zones, so if we do this again, I will try to choose a time that might be more user friendly to different folks. but if you could join me that would be awesome! Up to 250 people can log in (which would be crazy chaotic) but I would be happy if anyone would join me! The broadcast will be recorded and posted eventually on Xyliatales. Want to know more and get signed up in advance? It’s free! Just click here!
Today’s question ties in with Xylia Chat: What do you want to know about Xylia? Any questions about characters, the story, or technical questions about how the art is created would be great. They will give me subjects to answer and talk about to get started on the talkshow, and eventually would add them to our non-existant FAQ section.
Xylia belongs to some groovy collectives: Tomgeeks, Palace in the Sky Publishing, andTall Tale Features.
You can visitThe Xyliacs Club here!
That’s all for now! Monday there will be a page! I promise! Thank you again for your patience with me!

I’d probably like to hear anything about the art–I’m STILL trying to learn and pick up more tips and pointers as I go along…^///^
It’s okay to be hearing voices when it’s a loved one…right…?
July 14th, 2008 at 5:50 am
I’m surprised he won’t admit he saw and heard Xylia – it’s not like no one would believe him!
I hear voices all the time, and I talk about them because by gum, if I’m going crazy I want EVERYONE to know so that maybe I can stop working … I really hate working … Hehehe. Then I can get disability because I’m crazy and hear voices … my air conditioner radio is pretty quiet this morning, but yesterday it was busting out some interesting tunes and some talking, too. I’m sure it’ll start up again in awhile … it always does …

I not only hear voices, I talk back to them and supply their voices. It helps when hashing out ideas, but kind of isolates me further from the world, so it’s a two-sided coin. I wish I could at least see the chat (no mic yet….something I keep forgetting to buy) and type, but alas, I work until 615. Maybe if it was a little later I’d be able to make it. Oh well!

Wow,
I just started reading Xylia, and read the whole thing in an hour!
I love it, can’t wait to see what happens.

Chameleon- hee hee…hearing voices is never all bad…
Katy- I think Claude is just tired of sharing all of his innermost thoughts with that dog. ^_^
Brent- atta boy. I do that too. Then the mean voices come and, well…
Elly, thank you for stopping by and commenting! I’m glad you are enjoying the story so much~

You get the mean voices too??!? lol I always work late too, Barb, but maybe next time. I know lots of people complain about these so-called filler pages, but I really like seeing the little details that are inherent in them, setting us up for bigger things later on. Thanks for another beautifully drawn, if not terribly informative page.
Nice job with the mirror.

Just wanted to say, Barb, that you’ve got the most incredible smile.
As for voices, some of us hear them all the time, and we’re not the least bit crazy.
July 14th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Oooh, how can anyone complain of filler when the art is so beautiful? I wish I could draw :’(
July 14th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
Shoot! I missed the show!
July 15th, 2008 at 6:09 am
Pengie- you always say such kind things about the story. Thank you. Yeah, the mean voices sometimes get pretty loud, but a couple of days of smacking with a big club and they go away for a bit. ^_^
SCAScot- thank you! *blush* I call that the cheesey smile!
PeanutButter- thank you for the kind words- remember though ANYONE can draw. We all draw differently.
MICHAEL!! Havent seen you in ages! I’m going to host another show on a Saturday- that should work better for more people!

If that is cheesy smile, I’d hate to be in the line of fire when you are going for cute
Awesome Page Barb! Although Claudius should know better by now to not leave out details to Livy!

Argh! I missed the show! Where can I hear it? Link me up, baby! And btw, Barb, your art, as always, is simply AMAZING. I am in awe of your talent.

Barb: “…remember though ANYONE can draw. We all draw differently. ”
It’s true. For instance I draw… badly.
July 15th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
bet you i draw worse. we could have an ultimate bad fan art contest, only i’m not certain that’s not what’s going on most of the time on most webcomic sites.
it is 10pm tuesday and no comic – now i do not mind but i think it really is time for an rss feed. may i recommend the super-easy and free http://www.rsspect.com/ service – created by webcomic creators for webcomics?

“it is 10pm tuesday and no comic ”
This update was posted Monday. Xylia updates MOnday and Thursday. Not Xylia has an RSS feed, but it keeps getting taken off this page somehow. The other problem with RSS is that I don’t get credit for visits when people use it.
Josh- you are being too flattering… ^_^ And you are quite right about LIvy!
Dave! Welcome to Xylialand! Thank you for the nice comments!

@Michelle: there is an RSS feed on every page. See the icon in the address bar? ^^;
July 15th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
I just realized — this is the first time we’ve seen Xylia in full color in the comic! SQUEEEE!!!!
And Barb, any idea when a transcript of the chat will go up for us poor souls who missed the show?
July 15th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Sweet new page!
July 15th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
You could discuss on the chat how you’ve evolved in your art process. Like, I know you draw on paper, and color on the tablet, right? Maybe you could discuss why you do that, or what traditional art holds for you. Or how you get inspiration for drawing/scripting. There’s so much to talk about! And even if you think it’s something no so interesting, I can guarantee it’ll be fascinating to the rest of us noobs.
July 15th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
Canterrain- Oh, I see we share the same style of drawing
Do you share a talent for stick-figures as well? haha.
July 16th, 2008 at 5:34 am
Oh no, I hit the end of the archives! I was getting really pulled in there. XD Let me tell you, I enjoyed your last project a lot, but I enjoy this one like 5 times more. Excellent. This is exciting.
We should link trade. Well, I linked Xylia already, but you know. <3
July 16th, 2008 at 8:09 am
You’re quite welcome, Barb, but I’m not just being nice.
I read many webcomics, but only comment on the ones with exceptional art and story. Let’s see… A total of three at this juncture, including Xylia. It doesn’t have to be outstanding for me to enjoy, but it does to get me out of lurkdom. Try a taser with the mean voices, next time. Very effective. *grin*
Hey PB…I don’t know if Canterrain shares your talent with stick figures, but I sure do!
I always joke that I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler. Even my stick figures need a plastic surgeon.

It’s always highly annoying when I want an English equivalent to the German word “zeichnen”. The closest thing to it is “to draw” but that also covers things that don’t fall under “zeichnen”. Anyway, one of its meanings is the only type of drawing I can do.
July 16th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Perhaps you are looking for the word “to scrawl?” A scrawl being a lazy sketch, not very pretty, and usually in poor form. I do a lot of scrawlings myself.
